Ideas for Garden Design

Make a Plan

When creating a domestic landscape, the most important thing to do is to put a plan on paper. Develop  a master plan to reduce costs and time. As a   result  you are  likely to have a successful design.

A master plan is developed through the 'design procedure'.  A step-by-step method that thinks about the ecological conditions.  Your desires, and the elements and principles of style. The goal is to arrange the natural and man-made features. This should be arranged into a visual, functional, and ecologically sustainable feature.

Be Thoughtful of your Neighbours

Check with your next-door neighbors before making any major changes in your landscape. Locating a tree just 5 feet to the left of your proposed site could keep your neighbors   view intact.  Your neighbors might not necessarily share your taste in design.

So remember that your landscape design will have more influence on them than your interior design will. After all, you're not the only one who sees your backyard and garden every day.

Consider Building Regulations

Check with your next-door neighbors before making any major changes in your landscape. Locating a tree just 5 feet to the left of your proposed site could keep your neighbors   view intact.  Your neighbors might not necessarily share your taste in design.

Heights for walls and fences or setback requirements from property lines should be considered. Railing heights for decks, stairs, and terraces are controlled in some building regulations. Requirements for electrical components, avenue, and wiring might also undergo policy.

Building regulations can differ from council to council and town to town. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Be aware of electric, water and gas pipes

Couple of things in gardening are as frustrating as driving a pick or trenching spade into a buried pipeline or cable. Locate all pipes and underground lines if you plan to change dig trenches more than 18 inches deep in your garden.

Most companies or regional council provide services for finding and marking underground lines. There may be  a nominal charge.
